Recommendations

As issued by the authors

  1. Paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), unless contraindicated, given intra-operatively and continued postoperatively

  2. Intra-operative magnesium and dexmedetomidine infusions may be considered as adjuncts, particularly when basic analgesics are not given

  3. Parasternal block/surgical site infiltration is recommended

  4. Opioids should be reserved for rescue analgesia

  5. Other interventions, including cyclo-oxygenase-2 specific inhibitors, are not recommended (insufficient, inconsistent or no evidence and/or safety concerns)
